Registration and checking your registration details is your
responsibility!
But why vote?
Don't be fooled by those that tell you that you need to vote for
the bigger opposition party to ensure an effective opposition, and that
a vote for the smaller parties is a wasted vote. Nothing could be further from
the truth. We
have a proportional
representation
electoral system in South Africa, which means that every vote counts.
Remember - You
may only vote in an election if your name appears on the Voter's Roll!
TO QUALIFY
TO REGISTER TO VOTE YOU MUST BE:
1. A South African citizen
2. 16 years or older and in possession of a SA green barcoded
identity document (ID). (NB. Take this with you when you go to
register)
Important
To be eligible to vote
in the national, provincial or municipal
elections you have to register 'personally' in the voting district
where you live. Registered voters who have moved house must re-register
in their new voting district.
Register
timeously, register now!

WHERE DO YOU REGISTER TO VOTE?
Voters
can ONLY
register at an IEC office. Download a list of regional IEC offices here
At
special times before an election, the IEC will have registration days,
when you can actually register to vote at the voting stations
themselves. Essentially, you
must register within the ward that you live - prefereably at the Voting
Station closest to your home. Link to the page below, which is designed
to assist a voter to find a map of the
correct voting station at which he or she should register and vote.
