One
can probably take the history of the CDA way back
to even before our first elections in 1994, when many of our members
were
already involved in bringing about political change to our nation.
Those early
days when committed Christians had to spend hours and hours in God’s
word,
determining principles and policy for this totally new concept in our
country –
Biblical governance.
We
have all come a long way since then and God raised
up men and women across our nation to stand for this cause – to commit
their lives
to bringing about real change to our country. Men and women being
refined in
the precepts of God and coming to understand His will for South
Africa and it’s government.
It
is from these men and women that various parties
were formed.
In
2006, the Lord put into many leader's hearts to
begin to pursue fully the formation of an alliance between the
different
Christian parties and talks began between the CDP, FD and
ACT. Slowly but
surely the pieces started fitting together as God began to stir his
Church into
unity and rippled over into the realm of politics as well.
In
2007 these individual parties began to have formal
talks as well as officially approach other who might be likeminded in
being
obedient to God’s calling. The fact that this move was without a doubt
from
God, was evident in the humbleness shown by participating groups and
their
willingness to place others above themselves.
2008
saw rapid steps ahead as the individual parties
came to agreement on all the major issues, drafted an interim
constitution and
registered a new political party in South Africa.
The Christian
Democratic Alliance!
Surely a watershed moment for
South African politics,
as for the first time, Christian political parties have come together
and stood
as one. Placing God and the people of South Africa
above their own
programmes. |
